Like many who came of age in New Jersey's basement punk scene, Gethard got into Morrissey when he noticed that all his favorite pop-punk and hardcore bands, such as H20 and J Church, kept covering the Smiths. Morrissey connects hardest to the young people who feel like there is something intrinsically and inexorably unlovable about them.
