basically only held together by zicam right now.

Activity | Begin with the argument Mr. Genzlinger made that “The New Girl” is a “role-reversed Three’s Company.” Watch the same clip—or others—from “Three’s Company” and then watch parts of “The New Girl” episodes to test the theory that Jess is like Jack Tripper. Then put “The New Girl” through the same questions from the warm-up: Who are these people? Where are they? Why are they together? What can you tell about them from what they say, how they look, how they interact with one another? What, if anything, does the show say about life, friendship, relationships between women and men and so on? Then ask: Does the show imitate real life? Do people you know act like this? Do you think people try to act like these characters? If so, who and why? Do you think in 1980, people imitated—or were imitated by—the characters on “Three’s Company”? Are shows like “The New Girl” entering the mainstream and becoming part of our shared cultural shorthand and vernacular? http://learning.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/12/01/everyones-a-critic-analyzing-sitcoms-as-cultural-texts/

a character wants something. goes through trials. END UP GETTING WHAT THEY NEED

"Live your life how you want, but don't confuse drama with happiness." It's just occurred to me that Leslie and Ben would be the most incredible parents. Leslie's periodic out-of-control episodes might be a challenge, and certainly once you got into your late teens and (God forbid) started to consider leaving the nest you'd be in for a few years of intense unpleasantness, but other than that... All the activities ! The overflowing love and attention ! All the kick-ass board games Ben would invent for you ! The positive role-models for extreme ambition ! Okay, that one could be a mixed blessing. But I'm sure Ben's respect for video games as a pastime would balance out Leslie's DON'T WASTE YOUR LIFE GO OUTSIDE-iness. http://www.avclub.com/tvclub/parks-and-recreation-one-8000-203593#comment-1346441646

is picking writers for your tv show a lot like choosing your bridesmaids OR i bet there are two kinds, people who choose like bridesmaids and people who choose like children (can control)

just considered going to a screening of something i've never heard of because the last line says free popcorn and drinks and that's dinner right there

you know who's the best? you are. you know what we should do now? anything. everything. -how being in a room with amy poehler makes you feel

what i love most about improv is how it teaches you the rewards of being fully present with another person, trusting them enough to create something with them. what i love most about seeing amy poehler do improv is the conviction that i'll never do anything that doesn't mean something again.

i'm always hesitant to write characters who read their letters out loud as they're writing them, but hell if i don't do that with my emails.

for the last time, i don't drink coffee. my need for control sits me right up
