fringe oral history part 4

J.H. Wyman: I just wanted to make sure that two very specific criteria were filled: No 1. is that the characters end in a logical conclusion and become self-actualized. If you go back to the first episode, you might say, "Well who are these people?" I mean, Peter, "I hate my father" to "I love my father." Olivia saying, "I don't trust people" to "I do, I find strength in vulnerability now." Walter saying, "I have hubris and I've made a mistake" to "Yes, I've actually understood that I'm not a god and I have to make amends." I mean, these characters have come a long way. And No. 2, that I can leave and feel that I'm hopeful that everything happened, maybe not the way that I expected, but definitely the way that makes sense. Hope is very important to me, and I don't like to say good-byes and I didn't want to say good-bye, I just wanted to say this is the close of that chapter. I feel like that happened. I wanted to make sure that I gave them their due and I wanted to take care of the audience. http://www.tvguide.com/News/Fringe-Series-Finale-Oral-History-Abrams-Jackson-Torv-Noble-1059246.aspx

really appreciated and benefited from this discussion of writers on set from a writer & writer/actor perspective and the breakdown of comedy as science and drama as "grilling" - 20 different ways to get into an emotional scene, but jokes have to be exact. http://www.nerdist.com/2013/01/nerdist-writers-panel-68-2012-in-review-part-2-2/

the human kind

Manhattan - Overlooking The Square OLIVIA: Peter. PETER: Olivia. OLIVIA: Walter told me about Windmark... that he almost killed you. PETER: I have already turned that to my advantage. See those steps down there? In a few minutes, if everything goes according to plan, Windmark will walk up those steps and pass that fountain. Then I will know that he has been reset onto the correct path. He does not realize it now, but he will be back on the trajectory that I want him on. OLIVIA: What trajectory is that? PETER: The trajectory that leads to his death. He killed our daughter. At exactly 5:12 tomorrow afternoon, I will meet him face-to-face. He will not expect it. He will not have a chance to fight back. At 5:13, I will snap his neck. At 5:14, he will draw his last breath. OLIVIA: Peter, I’ve lost you before over this, and I’m not gonna let that happen again. Now, your thinking is way ahead of mine - - I understand that. But the fact that I am here has got nothing to do with anything except feeling. And soon, you're not gonna be able to feel anything, Not for me, not for ‘Etta. PETER: When I was fighting Windmark, he showed me ‘Etta's last thoughts before he shot her. She thought of us... that day in the park before they invaded, before everything went wrong. Her last thoughts... they were of us. I will kill him tomorrow. If I remove the tech, I will not be able to do that. Don't you see? OLIVIA: And what if tomorrow is too late? What if that tech becomes permanent? ‘Etta's not gone, Peter. Windmark didn't take her. PETER: Yes, he did. OLIVIA: No, he didn't. She's still here with us. PETER: She is dead. OLIVIA: She saved my life today with the bullet she brought to us. She's alive inside us. And there's nothing that Windmark can do about it, because the love that we can share with her now is invulnerable to space and time, even to them. And I know that our hearts are broken and that it hurts, But that's what makes us human. PETER: Emotion is our weakness. OLIVIA: No, Peter, it's our strength, because it's the one thing that they don't have. Now, we need to hold on to our connection with ‘Etta, feeling what we felt for her, or she dies all over again. And we cannot let her be erased. Peter - - Peter, I’m not asking you to abandon her. I'm asking you to hold on to her. You're not one of them. You're one of us. I want you to listen to me. I'm not gonna lose you again. Peter... Look at me. I love you. I love you. http://fringepedia.net/wiki/The_Human_Kind/Transcript 1) Peter and Olivia kiss in the bar in "6B". 2) Imaginary Peter's kiss with Olivia in "Plateau". 3) Olivia in the scene where she's looking at a shimmering Peter at the end of "Jacksonville". 4) Olivia looking up at Peter in the machine at the end of "The Last Sam Weiss" 5) Olivia looking at Peter in the "Waffles dream" at the beginning of "Back to where you never been". 6) Olivia and Peter clanking glasses at the end of "6B". 7) The kiss at the end of "6B". 8) The kiss at the end of "Brave New World 2". 9) The kiss at the end of "Short Story about Love". 10) Peter kissing Walter head after I believe he was poisoned in "Gray Matters". 11) Walter wearing an apron but no shirt again in the waffle dream. 12) Astrid and Walter looking upon PO at the end of "Brave New World 2". 13) Peter holding Oliva after pulling her out of the tank in "The Transformation". 14) Peter and Walter ecstatic after Olivia comes back to life in "Brave New World 2". 15) Etta and Oliva hugging in "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11". 16) Etta looking at Peter in "Letters of Transit". 17) Etta looking at Olivia in the same scenes as 15. 18) Etta in bed looking up at Peter in "Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11". 19) Etta hugging Peter in "Letters of Transit". 20) Peter touching Etta's face in "Letters of Transit". 21) Etta hugging Peter after he gave her the necklace in "The Bullet that Saved the World".
