tell em, hugh.

This chatter about another female Top Chef winner is nice and all, but they are all CHEFS. The only thing different about it that I can sit with my daughters, point to the screen and say, “See, you can be like that. Nothing stands in your way.” The cooking world has come so far. Chefs like Elizabeth Faulkner, April Bloomfield, Traci DesJardins, Naomi Pomeroy, Jenn Louis, Mary Sue Milliken, and many others, kick ass not because they’re women but because they are great chefs who cook circles around most everybody else in the industry, men and women alike. http://www.bravotv.com/top-chef/season-10/blogs/hugh-acheson/hugh-acheson-we-are-all-chefs?page=0,4

At any given time, you are actively working on three projects: * The rewrite: This is a project for which you have already written a draft and turned in, and you will edit per studio / producer notes. * The first draft: This is a project you are working on to get to the studio. * Prep-writing: This is your next project on which you are doing research, brainstorming, developing characters, and plotting. In a perfect world, you get to knock out a first draft while your rewrite is under review. Prep-writing is something you do along with the other writing. Sometimes you spend 1-2 days per week just doing that. Or you devote your evenings for research. - See more at: http://gointothestory.blcklst.com/2010/12/business-of-screenwriting-art-of.html#sthash.ZOm1SAv3.dpuf

To Failure You do not come dramatically, with dragons That rear up with my life between their paws And dash me butchered down beside the wagons, The horses panicking; nor as a clause Clearly set out to warn what can be lost, What out-of-pocket charges must be borne Expenses met; nor as a draughty ghost That's seen, some mornings, running down a lawn. It is these sunless afternoons, I find Install you at my elbow like a bore The chestnut trees are caked with silence. I'm Aware the days pass quicker than before, Smell staler too. And once they fall behind They look like ruin. You have been here some time. Philip Larkin :

Sometimes truth comes out of my mouth, and I don’t know how true it is until my ears have heard it. When people do things that are Brave and Strong, we help them. It has become the best rule I have ever invented; (no wrestling in the bathtub is a close second) it has become a new way to structure our lives. If our friends are doing something brave and strong, we make it a priority to help them.
It is brave and strong to live your life in a way that entangles your heart with the hearts of others.

just had the uncomfortable thought that my brain might be better suited to short-form improv.

"you know how sometimes it's worth it to lose a lot of something just to keep a little of it? because a little of that something is worth a lot more than something else?" i literally have no idea. hmm (later: "a little bit of you is a lot better than anybody else." okay maybe)

last resort 1x11

on matthew 5:6-7: To me, it's about choice. Choosing to do the right thing even though you are alone in that choice, and not letting fear of the unknown cloud your thinking. Fear that, when the path becomes too hard to see, we run back to what we know, even if what we know is broken beyond all repair. Sophie: Sam. Sam: Hi. Sophie: Are you all right? Sam: Yeah, I'm okay. I'm okay. Look, I, um... Sophie: Can I... say something? Sam: Yeah, of course. Sophie: You americans make fun of the French. We're always on strike, we missed rock 'n roll, Jerry Lewis. Sam laughs. Sophie: But, you know, we're not, um.. I'm not scared about difficult feelings. I don't need the people I care about to be happy all the time or clear or know what they want or don't want. It can be a mess. We like messy. Sam: Well, if you like messy, I'm your guy. Sophie: You're making fun of it, but I'm not. I am your friend. You can't stand seeing me. It doesn't match. It's okay. Sophie: Do you know this French saying from Edith Piaf, "Je ne regrette rein"? Sam: No. Sophie: (shrugs) Okay. --- we need duty and honor to show us where to go, and faith to carry us there.

One on each side like a dainty cup, so gently they hold thine sunglasses up. So round and nice, with a subtle ridge there's no bone in there, it's cartilage.
