i watch and consume media for many reasons, but one is to find heroes: those whose dial has become the greater good, particularly when weighted against one's own desires. one of the many gifts of "the good place" is, coming out of a performative evangelical mindset, i'm objectively just a little bit better than eleanor, and yet if she can make this choice (chidi made the big choice, but hers is the choice to hope they can find each other again), it's definitive proof "character" never forking mattered anyway. it's the gift that people can change that is often missing from evangelism. so much time is spent on convincing people of their fallen nature when so many already know and suffer - often at the hands of evangelicals. but it's the faith to believe someone can change and then the grace and character to stand by someone as they do, over and over again, that sustains me. answers to the contrary are valid too, but i'm so glad shows like "the good place" fall where they do on the side of the question "can people really change?"

"We don’t need Brianna! We have GLORIOUS MARSALI."

https://www.gofugyourself.com/outlander-recap-the-ballad-of-dogface-01-2019
AUNTIE CLAIRE IS VERY WEIRD AND COOL BUT I’D BE A CRACKING OLD FOOL TO PRY INTO HER LIFE; SHE’S UNCLE JAMIE’S WIFE, BUT SHE’S PROBABLY ALSO A SORCERESS OF SOME KIND AND I’VE SEEN HER TOUCH PEOPLE’S INSIDES AND CUT OFF HEADS AND IT IS SUPER NEAT AND SHE’S NICE TO ME BUT DETAILS ARE SCARY SO JUST TELL ME NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT! IAN!!!
At any rate, they hang out and eat their honey, and then Jamie spends a sleepless night fretting that she’s going to go back to the 1970s and leave him even sadder at her absence than before. Claire says that Brianna belongs in her own time, a safer time, one with more opportunities. Personally, I think they should move back to Scotland and set up shop near the stones so that they can pop through and spend the holidays together. Maybe if Claire and Jamie build an Inn, Brianna will find it there in her own time and can manage it, and it will become like The Lake House, where they can leave each other messages in a hollow tree.

Jamie, though, is furious to find out that Ian forked over their entire budget for this. Just when you think he’s about to take this final lump and head home, taut tail between his chiseled legs, Jamie instead hops off his rig and marches into the smithy’s lair and growls his displeasure as only a real Highland sex god can. Murtagh, whose back is to Jamie, immediately recognizes his godson’s voice and turns around in the slowest wonder. Unlike when Claire returned, Jamie does not lose consciousness. But he does stare in utter disbelief, before his eyes fill with tears. I was almost as excited for this moment as I was for Jamie and Claire. When the two of them hugged in this scene, I hugged MYSELF, just because I wanted in on the action.

"american animals" is spectacular. i love the fantasy of heist movies, but now i know i love half-documentary/half-reenactment films that count the cost even more

Jones is blonde, thoughtful, and gentle-seeming. A friend of theirs once described the pair as being each other’s subtexts, which Waller-Bridge loved. “My early plays are all about romance and love and people finding one another in the end, and Vicky’s are these dark perverted fucked-up things,” Waller-Bridge explains. “Vicky’s always crashing around in these lovely floral dresses telling everyone how amazing they are, and I’m habitually a bit more caustic.” Waller-Bridge had only just met her now-husband, the documentarian and journalist Conor Woodman, when she began writing Fleabag, and she did it essentially by imagining what her life would be like if Jones died. “The story is of a friendship that means so much to them both,” says Jack Thorne, a playwright who’s worked with both women, “and as she was writing that, she was falling in love with Conor, and so in some ways Fleabag is about being pulled away from friendship, the abandonment of them that happens when you do fall in love.” In other words, rather than seeing Fleabag as a dark look at what other emotions can come into play when you separate sex and love, you could see it as a dark valentine to the kinds of relationships that don’t need sex to be love.

write like edge of tomorrow

none of these characters ever have any honest conversations first i needed this to soothe me. now i need to set others free did you see that scene where he went on and tried to numb his way and do it without her!! that was gutting

every so often given time and bandwidth but also the collar-stretching feeling that i see the appeal of being so comfortable doing all the things i'd naturally want and make time to do but that's not at all the person i want to stay being forever, i go on a spree in which i say yes to every opportunity presented. this year it turned out i had four months of availability (yes i understand this is a matter of privilege and living in a very large city and it's very reasonable to say i have not always been a reasonably responsible adult). some stuff i got to do as a result: -pet a wolf -turned online friends into irl friends -traveled to my mother's motherland and got around by myself* (*okay, with sister) -finished the second act of my life in country music (when i was in high school i had this online life where i ran a country music news website for like two and a half years) -found another corner of the world i can actually see myself living in and it is northeast arkansas (!!) and i'm just typing more words right now because this is so rare and lovely a gift i could actually cry -continued my reign of terror in which i force the movie "short term 12" on others -went on some gd dates -this country is more than half women and we are going to live in this reality because reality is your friend. also next year - NEXT YEAR - latinx friends will be the majority in this here state and let's live like this too.
